OPEC, Canada shut off oil to US after Iraq Invasion

What if in a show of strong objection to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, OPEC Canada and other foreign suppliers of crude had shut off crude deliveries?

1973 deja vu? Or a more serious impact?

US turns to non-OPC exporters, imposes sanctions against those who refuse to sell and invades Fiji as a response

Maybe Saudi Arabia or Iran but I doubt all of OPEC and especially Canada would shut off importing oil to the US after the Iraq War starts.

That would implode the world economy and drag oil prices downward in the long term as the economy falls and the U.S turns to other oil producers who start to produce more in response.

And besides, Canada depends on the U.S economy. Not selling oil to the U.S would implode Canada's economy, too.

Lots of reasons that would never happen.

1 - Canada and the US are economically reliant upon each other.
2 - Canada's position on the Iraq war is that we will not get involved but we will also not openly fight against it.
3 - It would cause political chaos in Canada.
4 - Even if the Federal Government decided to stop selling the oil, Alberta would completely ignore that demand and keep selling.

Canada would never do it. It relies on the US and the Canadian citizens probably wouldn't want to punish their neighbors like that for unpopular government action.
