Poet turned War Hero seizes control of the town of Trient
"As Civil strife rages on in the Triple Monarchy, paramilitaries under the leadership of Gabriele D'Annunzio have seized control of the town of Trient as well as several strategic positions throughout the region, they have proclaimed the Regency of Trentino and seek to attach the territory to Italy, while several similar initiatives in the Adriatic were repulsed by loyalist forces, the successful seizure of the region by these so called modern day legionaries leaves the door open for other foreign powers to meddle in the conflict."
-Newspaper Article dated the 13th of September 1920

"They called themselves the Bureau of slight of hand an lightning attacks but as far as I am concerned they are just an ordinary bunch of thugs. Just yesterday they raided the town for provisions and food to provide supplies for the main force that's hold up in Trient. Not only did they rob the very people they claim to protect they also treated the townsfolk very harshly. When one of them spoke out against the violent tactics committed by these brigands, he was beaten within an inch of his life while others who did the same where treated to the infamous "castor oil treatment". You would almost hope the Reds would come and push these fanatics out."
-Dairy entry by an unknown author

"The Regency became a proving ground for the ideas that would form the foundation for the futurist movement, it's ideas as well as it's leader would go to dominate politics in Italy and beyond, Culminating in the annexation of the territory into Italy as soon as the Futurists came to power."

"Tucked away along the Adriatic Coast, there was a small enclave of Revolutionary activity. The Commune did thing a little bit different then their contemporaries in Vienna or Budapest. Being so far removed from the epicenters of revolution and besieged on all sides by reactionary forces, they had to be entirely self sufficient, lest their noble experiment come to an end before it had reached it's full potential. It is in that vein that they somewhat earned a reputation as pirates or brigands. As soon as I heard about these "Red Pirates", I knew where I had to be."

    Football in the Interwar Period

"What was true for the time is that politics and football went hand in hand, especially after the Civil war of the early 20's where you had several populations finding themselves in a foreign state in which they felt they did not belong. It is only logical then that they formed social and sporting clubs along lines of ethnicity or political orientation. Let's look at the town of Marburg (Maribor) for example. Marburg itself was majority German speaking, but the surrounding area was predominately Slovene. These Slovenes now found themselves in German speaking Austria, cut off from the rest of their kin just over the border in Illyria. They formed I. SSK Maribor (First Slovene Sports Club Maribor), meanwhile the German speaking community coalesced around Rapid Marburg. Around that time SK Rote Elf also came into existence as a sportclub linked to the Social Democratic Party of Austria. This club remained commited to the principles of Austro-Marxism and international Proletarianism. Thus the team was composed of German and Slovene players. Thus there where 3 team in a relatively small town, who you supported did depend on your nationality or political views. If you read to what happened to the clubs you would get a fairly accurate picture of the history of the Region."

"As for the difficult topic of nationality, it only seems logical that we fully implement National personal autonomy, and organize nations not in territorial bodies but in simple association of persons as to secure our state against nationalism and other reactionary tendencies."
