One Month At A Time:The Presidency of Daniel J. Archer

I've been working on this for a little while now, so I thought I'd post it and see what you guys think.

Basically, this is a timeline, were each person posts a summary of the event that take place during the presidency of Daniel J. Archer. He's just a fictional creation of my own, so if he has the name of any real politician, it's just a coincidence. the posts take place month by month.

rules

1) Everything in history remains more or less the same, up until the point of his election. Little changes can be made, but they must have as little effect on the OTL. So no Nazi Germany, or CSA.

2)Assassination attempts on the Presidents life are possible, but they aren't allowed to succeed. He can't resign, or be impeached. However, you can do to his cabinate memebers anything you want, as long as it's realistic.

3)No ASB wars are allowed, unless it would make sense for it to happen in the timeline. Example, Russia can't all of a sudden invade Europe without good reasons already being established previously in the timeline.

4) No nuclear holocausts, although nuclear weapons maybe used in a limited capacity, for example, between India and Pakistan.

5)Be sure to read before posting.

I'll post January than the next person can post February.

January 2001

On January 20th, 2001, Daniel James Archer is sworn in as the 43rd President of the United States of America, along with his Vice-President, John McCain. A moderate republican, Archer won a solid victory against his democratic opponate, Vice-President Al Gore. In his speech, Archer spoke of the need for, "Americans to prepare for the challenges of the 21st century." His cabinate picks were well recieved among both democrats and republicans, including Jeb Bush, son of former President George Bush, as Secretary of Sate, and General Colin Powell as Secretary of Defence. The rest of the month passes smothly, and by the end of it, Archer begins to work on his election promise of passing his Education Act in congress.

i like it. not too sure about jeb bush as sec of state though. but still i like it. maybe a little more info on the election. Specifically is he dealing with a hostile congress does he have the public mandate and such.

February 2001

President Archer announces the passage of the Education Act, which would expand funding to rural and high-poverty schools, as well as dramatically expanding funding for Work-Study college aid. In exchange for a massive cut in corporate taxes, the GOP agrees (Surprise!) to increase the minimum wage to $10, a living wage. Other then passing Health Savings Accounts, however, healthcare reform stalls in Congress, as so does Social Security reform.

Meanwhile, India and Pakistan are coming closer to a solution for Kashmir: independence followed by UN peacekeeping operations. An ever larger pro-peace and reconciliation business, working, and middle class in both countries starts protesting, however, when Atal Bihari Vajpaye and the nationalist BJP party in India pulls out of the deal. Likud Party leader Ariel Sharon wins election as Prime Minister of Israel. The American submarine USS Greeneville accidentally strikes and sinks Japanese fishing vessel Ehime-Maru. And the NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft touchdown in the "saddle" region of 433 Eros becoming the first spacecraft to land on an asteroid. In Europe, the Treaty of Nice is signed, reforming the European Union.

There are some issues that would determine the nature of opposition and/or support. Consider that despite being a Republican, there has been no statement regarding his prior record.

A) Was he a governor? Was he a Senator? Was he a member of the House of Representatives?

B) Did he serve in the Vietnam War and/or Gulf War?

C) Which states did he win in the election?

D) With what issues does Archer agree with the Christian Coalition and members of the Evangelical Christian movement?

E) What role did Archer have during the Clinton impeachment hearings in 1998?

F)Where does Archer stand on gun control and/or the NRA?

G) What does Archer think about Republican contributors and their calls for corporate deregulation, especially Citibank? Lehman Brothers? Halliburton?
Enron? Worldcom?
