Hitler expected a longer war, the General Staff expected a shorter war?

I will venture an estimate, Germany expected the war in the west to be up to six months long.

Rationale: The actual speed of victory, breaking through to the Channel, and collapse and surrender of France took Germany by surprise in 1940.

But German planning was still predicated on a *series of successive campaigns in the west* to defeat France before 1941, because no Germans imagined they had the resources to fight longer.
