Italy and Germany split
By Heinrich Schaefer
The seven-year pact between Italy and Germany ended today when Italy pulled out of the Axis yesterday following revelations that the German Foreign Ministry was in communication with Arab Ba'athist rebels and thinkers to establish an alliance, likely with the creation of a pro-German pan-Arab republic. Italy has struggled to hold down its new colonies, particularly in Northern Syria and Libya where a low-level insurgency is brewing. German Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop made the revelation of their intentions to form a "United Arab Republic".

Italy left the Axis alongside Croatia, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Iraq; the United Kingdom was also expected to leave as it has its own problems with Ba'athism, but the British government - headed by Hitlerite Oswald Mosley - stayed in despite uproar and pressures to do so.

The United Free Nations has remained largely silent, it made an official statement, written by its Secretary-General Max Aitken, backing democracy and self-rule in the Middle East but decrying Ba'athism and the two powers.

The Swiss government has expectedly made no comment.

Um, nope. Mosley was a Fascist, but he sure as Hell wasn't stupid - at least not THAT stupid. Considering Mosley staying in power implies Britain Joined on its own terms, then Germany even slightly implying they support a Movement that is not-even-subtle about wanting to liberate places like Yemen and Kuwait (British Colonies) would end badly. While Mosley was somewhat pro-decolonization in Terms of India, and wanted to essentialy ,,kick out" the Black-Majority areas from the Empire, he was very clear on his distain from Socialism (which Ba'athism was closely intertwined with) and Britain's need to change from a ,,Big Empire" (one that held a lot of worthless wasteland) to a ,,small Empire" (One that held less land but which was of more Value - The Middle East, with its oil production, was one of theese).

Tldr : Mosley was probably the one British fascist who would have suffered an anurysm or an Anger attack if Ribbentrop even implied any support for Ba'athism, let alone endorsed and supported the creation of an UAR.

I don't see why Britain would stay while Hungary or Bulgaria would leave. Was Horthy more concerned with the stocks of the BPC than the bloody Prime Minister?

Mosley becomes pro-Hitler in TTL and needs German money anyways. Bulgaria and Hungary would leave the Axis due to Italian influence due to ethnic squabbling in the Balkans after the Treaty of Budapest in 1943 which divided the Balkans.

I said he was Pro Hitler, but on the basis of an ,,equal partnership". Imagine what would have happened in our Cold War if Britain Started giving money to Communist Cuba durring the '62 Missle Crisis.

Why does he need German Money? Even if Britain was in shambles due to the Depression and a (i assume) shorter WW2 they would still have somewhat recovered by now. And Mosley's BUF would have probably hanged him on the nearest lamppost - for Pete's sake, one of their main policy points was that they were not ,,Reliant" on foreign Powers (France, USA), accusing Labor and Conservatives of being ,,foreign spies".

This would be complete political suicide. Even in an authoritarian system doing shite like this would probably result in Mosley getting removed and replaced with some other Fascist who would leave the Axis and steer towards Italy (or whatever other major fascist powers exist).

Mosley never could become British PM. And even if there would had been Operation Sea Feline (impossible one which couldn't even succeed) and occupy Britain (even further impossible) Germans never would put Mosley as PM.

And Hungary leaving over Baathist movement seems bit unlikely. It was pretty much German puppet.

For some reason Horthy is more angry with the Germans funding some pseudo-socialists half a world away than the goddamn British Prime Minister is with the Reich promoting his biggest enemies in the Middle East.
