Book Time
For the Soul of France Culture Wars in the Age of Dreyfus by Frederick Brown
The Aforementioned book describes the founding of the French republic after Nappy 3rd fell from power. It describes the paris commune, Boulanger's rise (and swift fall), the panama canal company failure (and how that was blamed on the jews), effiel tower, and much more.
I really enjoyed said book because it described the precarious position of the French republic during its first 15 years.
Another interesting thing about the book was that it explained how Fascism really was first born in France.
Back to this TL. Boulanger marching on the National Assembly was a very real possibility. Right after Boulanger won election as a deputy of Paris, he could have marched on Paris, and probally he would have had the support of the people for his coup. Boulanger stalled, and decided against launching a coup, so he lost his best chance at gaining power.
