There is some diversions in how Chirac and the French political and economic state reacts to 11.09 (as it would be called on this side of the ocean).

First France has a huge Arab/Beur population from Zidane down to rascally anti social thugs on the La Haine estates.

Second it had substantial investments in Iraq. As did the Russians.

How much the outrage versus interests would be balanced for Paris is hard to say. Ultimately the French might have had a presence in the invasion, certainly would have looked to occupy some of Iraq (Maybe helped the Kurds?) but it would be fraught with tremendous difficulties.

I would think (admittedly, on the basis of no research whatsoever) that the Eiffel Tower would stand up to getting hit by a light plane pretty well.

I would thinks (admittedly, on the basis of studying architecture ) that the only way to demolish the Eifel Tower is to blow up the 4 main pillars. An airplane hitting it could cause the taller section to go down, but the tower itself would stand.

That's plenty enough for symbollic damage. It's not like a jetliner was able to knock out the Pentagon.

Anyway, I doubt a private airplane was able to knock down the tower. The Twin Towers almost managed to stand, and their collapse was not due to the impact, but to the fire that melted the steel reinforcements of the structure. You'd need another airliner loaded with enough fuel for a transcontinental flight to at least melt the upper portion of the structure. The sheer force of the shock wouldn't do it.
