Old Fred? (An AHC and/or WI or so)

Friedrich II von Preußen had British ties, so how can they be used to make him Old Fred, and what would happened then?

There are two PODs I've heard of here on AH.com, but haven't seen them explored:

1 Eliminate the Hanover-Line -> British-Prussian personal-union.

2 His flight to England in 1730 had been successful. (I think that would be very interesting)

3 Something total different.

2. Friedrich managed to escape in England. He married at London Anne, the daughter of George II. Friedrich Wilheim declared as new heir his second live son, Augustus Wilheim.
At some point... the prince of wales Frederick (son of George II) died. The British parliament, also for keeping the union with Hanover, pushed to declare new heir Friedrich as husband of George II's second son, which was Anne. George accepted and when he died in 1851, Friedrich become king of England.

A little bump in hope of more response.

@ RyuDrago: Well, you took the second approach to come to halve of the first goal (King Frederick) ;)

With the successful escape I was more looking for a TL were he doesn't become King. What would young Fritz do, if he needs a new occupation? I can't see him as a lazy courtier, where would he find his place? What could he achieve?

The obvious thing for him to do would be to become an officer in the British Army and write lots of books about military tactics before fighting alongside Wolfe, Amherst and Washington in the Seven Years' War...

If he did he would be exceptional among British officers, who were not known for producing military writing. The officer cadre was simply a handy place for putting your excess sons, if you were a family of good breeding. I wouldn't put it past Frederick II though, as he was clearly a man of great learning, but if he had been an officer in the British army his experience of warfare would have been different enough that I would suggest his writings would be fairly dull, more like drill manuals.

Are there some British philosophers he could provide patronage to? Maybe Handel is a greater influence on his music?

How good was his military training at that time, giving his fathers obsession with that matter? And would he have an advantage due to it? Could he play a significant role, and if where would that lead to?

But wouldn't be the military be his last choice because he hated it at that time?
Were could he leave his marks instead?
How would he fit in?

Weak in Britain - the officer corps was purely based on venality and it's sort of a case of luck they could get competent, let alone good, generals out of it.
There are also few english philosophers left around that time: Scots, on the other hand (and some Irish and Ulster Scots) are plentiful. This kind of patronage would put him at odds with the english establishment though

So you say, that there will be no place in England, were he can show some of his greatness, when he arrives as a refugee? :´( (BTW how will Prussia end without him?)

But what is it with the personal union? How we get rid of Sophia's bunch late enough, to get a Fred as close to the Fritz we know? And how would a British-Prussian Union look like?

Agree about he may become an officer, but before the Seven Years war the war of Austrian succession must be happened... and without Friedrich II in Prussia, his homeland shall win the war?

However, a Friedrich von Prussien in America... may lead to an early American Revolution and later a Prussian as first president of the new bornly United States? :D
