The goal was for the rebels' ranks to grow as they marched east toward Washington to overthrow Wilson. However, an informer warned the local authorities and a posse intercepted and defeated them.

I imagine had this not happened, they'd have gotten splatted sooner or later before building up the critical mass needed to seriously threaten the government, but I'm wondering how big it could in theory get.

Well I think it could succeed to be the spark of a socialist revolution if the Germans eked out a victory right around here, which is possible but hard to do
