Oh what a circus! - A President Palin TL

"With her first 100 days past her and no significant legislative accomplishments to her name. President Palin needs to act quickly to adress the growing economic problem in America. A double-dip recession could well be in the cards if Palin doesn't act quickly to stimulate the flagging economy...Political savvy and good PR can only go a long way when Americans start feeling the hurt..."

- Paul Krugman "The Conscience of a Liberal" blog

"This American Recovery Act will lead to more growth. More jobs and stimulate the economy for everyone. I am urging congress to work on this issue and to pass it."
- Meg Whitman discussing the American Recovery Act

"The so called "American Recovery Act" is an incredulous piece of legislation. Besides extending the Bush tax cuts permanently and lowering the top-tax rate and coproration tax even further, this doesn't even begin to directly address the problems that the US economy is facing. It's better than nothing in a way that pissing on a house on fire is better than just standing and watching it burn."

- Paul Krugman on the American Recovery Act

"My fellow citizens, the quagmire in Iraq and Afghanistan doesn't seem to be getting better. Whatever your thoughts on this issue, we all must agree that the wars are draining America. The last thing we need is yet ANOTHER war in Iran which the Palin admininstration seems to be somewhat incredibly contemplating following the crackdown on the "Green Movement" in Iran. That's why today I'm starting a "War-ed Enough Already" or "WEA" movement. We've got to send a strong message that the last thing we need is another war!"
- John Stewart on the Daily Show announcing the creation of the WEA Party movement.

"My fellow citizens, the socialist Sarah Palin is seeking to appease the communists even further with her so-called "American Recovery Act." By not slashing taxes to a 0% she has betrayed her principles and betrayed our movement. Today I stand before you, proud to announce the creation of a new 21st century American movement to eliminate socialism in the country. I give you the TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY or TEA Party movement. In a few days, we will converge on Boston, Massachusets to dump large-ish quantities of TEA in the Harbour to make a point."
- Stephen Colbert announces the creation of the TEA Party Movement

"Wow, this TEA and WEA Party stuff is really exploding in popularity all over the country isn't it? I guess young people today are turned on by all that cutting edge irony stuff. But hey, if we can ride that wave of youth enthusiasm and energy to the polls, we should be making a killing."
- Barack Obama in his diary.

"By the end of Sarah Palin's first year in office, a stalled economy, a deadlocked congress and a quagmire in both Iraq and Afghanistan was chipping away at her once meteoric popularity...compounding her problems was the TEA/WEA party movement which was engaging and invigorating the Democratic base. The last quarter jobless rate which still stood at 11% which was only marginally better than the 11.5% at the start of the year. With a bad first year, could Palin seize the initiative in the next in her State of the Union Adress."

2010

"Ted Kennedy was a brave and honourable man who has left big shoes left to fill. I extend my sincere condolences to the people of Massachusets, Ted Kennedy's family and friends and to the nation who mourns for the loss of a principled and effective representative"
- Sarah Palin on the death of Ted Kennedy

"2010 is here and Palin is facing diving approval ratings, a depressed Republican base, an enthusiastic Democratic movement and a collapsing Economy... I don't think the mid-terms are going to be good to her at all"
- Paul Krugman

"...Shake hands? In the rain? Outside of Fenway Park? Lol!..."
- Martha Coakley

"...Scott Brown was in every conceivable way the better candidate for the Massachusetts Senate Seat. Martha Coakley made many, many gaffes and was dogged by her record of letting someone who raped his own 20 month old daughter go free on parole. But the new political reality created by the TEA and WEA party movement meant that gaffes such as her infamous "Shake hands? In the rain? Outside of Fenway Park? Lol!" was turned into an asset, rather than a liability by a new irony conscious generation that was activated by the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. The fact that Scott Brown was a Republican when the Republican generic brand was trailing the Democrats by about 10 points did not also help things, neither did President Sarah Palin's campaigning for Scott Brown in Massachusetts when her approval rate was at a pathetic 20%. Brown's landslide defeat where he garnered a mere 40% of the vote against Coakley's 58% was a blow to not only Palin's agenda but to the moderate Republicans..."
- Huffington Post

"...Massachusetts was the turning point of Sarah Palin's presidency. From then on every poll that followed had her approval rating at a negative..."
- US Political History.COM

"...The Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has been the result of the Palin's admininstration's lax oversight of the environment and her own "Drill Baby Drill Mantra" - donate $10 to Operation Blue and punish Palin for her anti-environmental agenda."
- DailyKos

"...Facing bleak prospects in the Republican Primary against conservative challenger Pat Toomey and citing disagreements with Sarah Palin's 'lackluster and lax leadership' Arlen Specter has announced his decision to switch parties today. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi have applauded Specter's move and have welcomed him wholeheartedly into the Democratic caucus. With the Democratic Establishment closing ranks aroud Specter it appears that Specter may have saved his career against a primary challenger...Specter's high popularity in the state will in all likelihood ensure re-election in the General election..."
- Politico

"...Other Senators are not so lucky as Specter, Blanche Lincoln is having the fight of her life against a resurgent WEA/TEA Party challenge in the form of Jack Conway who has lambasted Blanche Lincoln's "conservatism" and accused her of being a "DINO.." Senator Evan Bayh is currently ahead of a prospective "More Liberal Challenger" but the TEA Party movement is investing money, manpower and enthusiasm in finding a more liberal challenger to Evan Bayh..."
- Politico

"DeMint, Palin and the Republicans started the Recession"
- Alvin Greene

"...In South Carolina, the TEA party movement have pulled off an upset victory against Vic Rawls, the establishment Democrat and have secured the nomination of Alvin Greene, a former Army Veteran...however they may be experiencing a case of buyer's remorse as Alvin Greene's strange manerisms and odd demanour may prove it hard to win the General election...However, South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint is under controversy for his proposed plans to ban single women from teaching at high schools with TEA and WEA party ads blanketing the state lowering his approval rating...Although DeMint is still 10points behind a Generic Democrat in the polls, a depressed Republican base, a motivated Democratic base and lots of outside support for the Greene campaign could turn this election against DeMint. This is definitely a campaign to watch in the 2010 midterms."
- TPM

"...the Republican Party is in serious danger of losing from 50-100 congress seats in the upcoming midterms and up to . The recent uptick in the jobless rate to 13%, the catastrophic political management of the Gulf Spill issue with the Democratic Party being able to frame the debate as "Americans vs Foreign Oil Companies" and Sarah Palin taking the "Foreign Oil Companies", a national crime rate surge, a deteriorating situation in Iraq and Afghanistan and the crackdown against the "Green Movement" in Iran has sunk the Generic Republican ticket to 15 points behind that of the Democrats. Sarah Palin's own popularity is in the doldrums at 40% and there is a serious chance of losing as many as 20 seats in the Senate... In the Gubernatorial races, many Republicans This could be an utterly catastrophic midterm for Sarah Palin and she must be very nervous awaiting the election results tommorow..."

I am really enjoying the "Through the Looking Glass" feel to this. That Stewart and Colbert would do something so overtly political is odd, but still entertaining.

Thank you :) Well the thing is they aren't doing something overtly political. They did start the movement but it's definitely outside of their control now with Stewart and Colbert just being well respected "figureheads" who hold no real position of power in the TEA/WEA party movement...

So pretty much parallels how the TEA Party was hi-hacked to be a Republican Party Auxilary :D

Overall Senate results:
Republican Loss: 12 Seats
Democrats Gain: 12 Seats
New Balance in Senate 66-44

In a sweeping and comprehensive defeat, the Republicans lost 12 seats and the Democrats won 12 seats. This bought the Democrats to a Filibuster proof 66 seats in the Senate and was a stunning rebuke to the Palin Admininsration. Especially embarassing was the loss of South Carolina to an unemployed man facing lewd misconduct charges...

House Results:
Republicans Net Loss: 60 Seats
Democrats Net Gain: 60 Seats
New Balance in the House: 306-129

The house had similarly embarassing results for the Palin admininstration, some previously solidly Republian districts in the Gulf states were won by the Democrats following the BP oil spill and the Admininstrations inaction.

Gubernatorial Results:
Republicans Net Loss: 4 Seats
Democrats Net Gain: 4 Seats
New Gubernatorial Balance: 30-20
The Republicans also took a drubbing all around the country, losing California and several other states. A symptom of the times was the popular Charlie Crist's narrow margin of 1% despite having an approval rating of over 65%. The Republican brand seemed to have become toxic.

With a drubbing being dealt at the mid-terms the Palin Admininstration was humiliated. Political commentators began to talk again of a "New Realignment" and some even spoke of an "Emerging Majority" of "Blacks, Youth, Asians, Hispanics and Homosexuals" that would replace the old demographic...

With a different Tea Party formation going on, Ron Johnson for Senator is butterflied away. How about Dick Leinenkugel in his spot? Still a Feingold win, though.

"...I've been humbled by the result and pledge to work with the new congress to do what is best for America. God bless you all"
- President Sarah Palin

"We stand poised at the head of a new Democratic majority, we're at the cusp of another New Deal, let's keep our discipline and keep working for a better future for us and for our children"
- Sen. Barack Obama at his re-election victory party

"I was devastated. I have sunk into some sort of deep depression after the enormous loss. It was during that period that I prayed a lot and asked myself what I really was in politics for. The answer was that I people, and if that meant reaching across party lines and working with Democrats to achieve better outcomes for everyone, I would do it."
- Going Rogue: An American Life

"We applaud Sarah Palin for leading and establishing America's first nationwide Emissions Trading Scheme. Although some aspects of it do need reform, it is a laudable first effort in establishing a historical framework for Emissions regulation."
- Greenpeace

"The first thing I wanted to do was work on some climate change legislation. During my moment of depression and despair I used to have vivid dreams and visions of a clear blue sky being overclouded by a dark, thick smoke which would come down and suffocate me. And during that dark period of my life with the nightmares and visions there was always someone who was there for me and that person was Reverend Jim Wallis. At the urging of Jim, I sheperded the Republicans who were left in the lame-dog session with some blue dogs and persuaded them to accept my proposal because there would otherwise be "more radical" proposals from Nancy Pelosi and her emboldened Tea Party movement. It worked. Lots of blue dog congressmen defied Pelosi and Reid and I ended up scoring my first real win. I would use the same formula over and over again, sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't but faced with an overwhelming and fillibuster proof Democratic majority, it was the best I could do and the tactic I wanted to use."
- Sarah Palin

"...What's gotten into Sarah? First it was the Emissions Trading Scam and now it's an appeasement capitulation scheme with Russia??? Is she going to pursue socialist health care reform next???!!!"
- gunlover1254

"The 'lame-duck' session of the congress would be one of the most productive ever. It passed three key pieces of legislation in a relatively small ammount of time: an Emissions Trading Scheme to come into effect by 2014, a Nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia and another round of fiscal stimulus... Sarah Palin had gained her mojo back."
