I've got an idea that involves New York's electors being present for the 1788 Presidential Election and Jefferson later being implicated in the Kentucky Resolution. Not quite sure if it deserves to be expanded upon as a concept but I've been tossing it around in my head.

Blue and White, West and East: A Different Cold War
The Russian Civil War ends up with the Whites winning, with Lenin and Stalin being executed, and Trotsky exiled to the United States. America undergoes a "White Scare" in which right-wing people are accused of being "Whites", aka "supporting the dictators in Russia". Leon Trotsky gives speeches on how brutal the Whites were in the Civil War. This helps the White Scare. The Republicans are affected by the White Scare. Wilson loses the 1916 election to Hughes, because he's a tad more open in his racism. Debs wins 1920, promising the American people that the USA will stand against Fascism (called Crystalism) in the world. La Follette wins 1924, and he and BKW continues the USA's anti-Crystalist stance. In 1928, the newly Liberal/Socialist Democratic Party doesn't focus on this, instead basing off the thriving economy. FDR deals with the Little Depression, introducing a more radical New Deal to the American people. In 1940, the American people are scared of Crystalist Japan, so FDR does internment. This backfires and the American people are more distrusting of the Democratic Party. Eisenhower runs as a Republican in 1952 and 1956, promising to combat Crystalism in the world, creating the "Eisenhower Doctrine". Stevenson does the same, but Ike wins the elections on his war record. Kennedy and Johnson is a tad more lefty then OTL, and very anti-Crystalist. The Prohibition Party has embraced Crystalism, so its very unpopular. Humphrey is tough on Crystalism, but the people are starting to wear of the Japanese War (between the anti-Crystalist dictatorship of South Japan, and the Crystalist Empire in the North) so they vote in McGovern which then withdraw in a sensible way. Ford combats Crystalism, as well as Carter. Mondale successfully connects Reagan with Crystalism, this explains Reagan's sharp decline in popularity. Dukakis is a lackluster president, and Crystalism grows in power in the world, then Clinton takes over, and with his hard stance against Crystalism, plus the pressures from the world, Poland having re-united, and Japan having threw off Crystalism, declaring itself a parliamentary monarchy, with a different Emperor, the ideology itself collapses, as well as Russia (which since Crystalism is fascism, is worse then OTL) Gore runs on Clinton's record of having won against Crystalism, and wins 2000. He declines to run in 2004, and Kerry wins that. The Democratic Party gains a lot of popularity since it successfully defeated Crystalism. This record will maintain the Democrat hegemony up to 2016, and then enough people think its time for a change, so they vote Green in that election.

I will definately do a more right-wing Europe. The south will secede, but in an interesting way, a little corruption moment in the '80s Dems. The future will be a no-go for me.
I think we should have the USA expand as it does OTL. Up to Nerdlinger. I'm sticking to OTL land up to 2013, then Puerto Rico.

Hmmm...also do the figures have to be OTL figures or can they be different people who just happen to have the same name? Same with the political parties. Like could I have the Republicans be Christian Maoists or something like that?
I was hoping this thread could reside in Books and Media since it spent over half its existence in this forum and since it was my haven after being exiled from Chat. Is it OK to keep it here?
I mean as plausible as you can get, given the limitations.
The states have to be admitted as is (OTL borders and all) and in time for the first presidential election in which they could vote in OTL. Territories are up for grabs, however.
