Official Pennylvnd Thread

I was messing about with tricolours, and I came up with this design. The design itself (horizontal tricolour + shield/coat of arms) is nothing new, but I think it works well with Pennylvund's colours.

I think it would make a good government ensign, it doesn't really look like a military flag, but it still looks rather 'official'.

There's something off-putting about that design that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe it just looks weird because the red shield blends too well with the stripes on the flag.

Personally, I really like the last design that Krall posted before that. (The Scandinavian one.)

Woah, that is really cool! One of the best yet, I think.

Danke! :D

Yeah, you're right. There's something wrong with that flag, maybe the shield's too far to the left? I don't know, but there's definitely something a bit weird about it.

I don't necessarily like this flag too much (it looks a bit like the flag of the People's Republic of Pennylvnd, to me), but I like the seal in the middle. I didn't make the chains and twiddly bits, though, I stole them off Belgium's coat of arms.

A few more nordic cross flags I designed. I like the middle one the most.

How about a gold border on the outside of the middle flag? I think you'd have it down. Unless Highlander is not down with the Nordic cross for some reason.

Edit: Oh, and... maybe I'm being crazy, but I think the seal might look good if you turn it upside-down.

Krall, you're giving me too many good flags! :p

Like that's ever a bad thing . . .

Hmm, intriguing. I like this one. A few comments: the twiddly bits would be fine, though maybe not touching the crown? Unless you were going for the effect of them merging into it. I really like the chain though - working on a Royal Standard right now, I may include that. Also, what is your opinion on different dimensions for the flag? I've been looking, a few stand out that I like (13:15, like Belgium, and 11:20, like Qatar). 'Cause I was thinking of going that route for the national one.

*drools* Dammit Krall, I already had my national flag picked out! :p

My favorite is the last one. What do you see that one representing?

I think the middle one would be more suited to colonial flags as it seems like the 'seal' has just been planted on top of an existing flag, whereas the last one incoporates it more fully into the flag and is nit so easily
seperated.

Well, I try. :)

I originally had the twiddlies not touching the crowns, but that meant that the crowns would either have to be rather small, or not centred, which looked wrong.

The dimensions I'm using for most flags at the moment are either 10:14.5 or 2:3. Belgium's tall tricolour did inspire the naval jack design, but it doesn't really work for anything else.

The last one is totally Pennylvnd's military naval ensign. That basically means we have two of at least six flags done.

What flag had you picked out as the national flag?

That's what my upside-down comment was about. I think the twiddlies touching the crown might look better if they're on top of the seal and not the bottom.

What would you think of using the one in post #39 as a Royal Standard?

Also, some more points: I'd like to figure out how to make passports (and if I could actually get in legal trouble, even though I am now an independant entity :p ), and I'm starting on developing a conlang for Pennylvnd, combining English, German, and maybe one other language.

Maybe email the people from Sealand, see where they got their passports made. And it's probably legal as long as you're not selling them to illegal immigrants etc.

Great idea, just sent them a line.

Oh you should see if you can find Danny Wallace's How To Start Your Own Country a British TV show that was on a few years ago, not because it's any good, but that he talks to quite a few people who've started micronations etc.

The one in post 39 wouldn't really work as a royal standard. A royal standard is usually extremely different from the national flag and is usually very heraldic. They draw more from the coat of arms and heraldry of the ruling dynasty than from the national flag.

Okay, I contacted someone, and I may be commisioning them to code the website I showed earlier. The details need to be worked out still.

Okay, so instead of creating a whole conlang for now, I've created a different, unique alphabet for English, a la Deseret.

Thoughts? I mostly combined English, Georgian, Greek and Cherokee.
