This may seem a little redundant and all but here I go. Ovida was a general during the last days of the Western Roman Empire and also the last Roman ruler of Dalmatia. Following Orestes' coup against Julius Nepos, Ovida remained loyal to the Emperor and accompanied him on his escape to Dalmatia; the situation was stable, if not prosperous compared to the rest of the Empire. Nepos decided to plan to reconquer Italy from Odoacer though his soldiers weren't in favor of that so he was assassinated. Since Nepos was assassinated, Odoacer, as Zeno's "vassal" in Italy, took the chance to invade Dalmatia. Ovida tried to defend the land against Odoacer in a short war and by the end of 480, had his little kingdom conquered.
So what if Ovida decided to support Orestes' coup (the father of Romulus Augustulus) and arrest Nepos as soon as he arrives in Dalmatia and recognize Orestes' son as Emperor in exchange for recognizing his authority over the province of Dalmatia which remains under nominal WRE control. Would it make much of a difference once Odoacer rebels against Orestes and Romulus? Would Odoacer even rebel at all with the Western Roman Empire being a bit more stronger, though not by much.
