Obama Clinton

What if Obama picked Hillary as his running mate. This effects the 2008 election. I read that 16% of McCain voters had supported Hillary. I think this would have inspired some of them to stay home. I also read that 13 % of Obama voters would not have voted for Hillary. I don't think Obama loses to many of them. I think there is a net gain of voters. Certainly enough to take Missouri. I don't know if there is enough to take the the other close states: Georgia, South Carolina, Montana and the Dakotas. I odn't know who would have been Secretary of State. I think Bill Richardson is first choice, but he has to witdraw. Whomever it is, he or she does not have the same start power. I don't think much changes in policy. Obama Clinton is reelected in 2012 by the same margin. The one thing would be that for 32 years a member of the Bush and Clinton royal families have been President or Vice President.

It wouldn't have happened. Neither of them would've settled for the running-mate position -- especially as the Vice-President's powers depend entirely on how much the President gives them (thus you get everywhere from John Nance Garner to Dick Cheney) and there had been so much bad blood between their campaigns recently. Obama offering Hillary the Secretary of State position in OTL was a much better olive branch than running mate would've been, as at least that comes with in-built responsibilities and trust -- and the offer came late enough for both sides to cool down.

I know Cole said that neither would have accepted the second fiddle, but I think it would be more likely that Obama would have accepted VP than Hillary.

If Hillary is the nominee, however, she would probably not ask him. You'd have to have a scenario where Obama does extremely well as in OTL, and Hillary and Obama are neck in neck at the convention, with Hillary having a slight lead.

The Clintons could offer Obama VP (and therefore a shot at the office next go-round) in exchange for his endorsement.

Just a thought.

So killing Osama is spineless?

It was certainly an achievement but I don't understand why people think that a single mission in a long running war is anyway to judge the foreign policy of the government at a time when the entire Middle east was (and in many places still is) in upheaval.

No, seriously, neither of them would've accepted the VP role. Don't you guys remember 2008?

In fact, I really really doubt Clinton would've ever even offered it to Obama -- it would've totally undermined her main attack on him, which was that he was inexperienced.

pretty much this, and she would need someone with more Foreign Affairs experience on her ticket (her one sub committee with this was Armed Forces wouldn't have amounted to much) she could go with Wesley Clark or Bill Richardson both who have considerable FA experience and Richardson has the added benefit of being Bill's Sec of Energy and UN Ambassador.

Hilary Clinton has already worked out a shortlist for VP during 2007, it is believed it was:
  • Ted Strickland, Governor Ohio
  • Tom Vilsack, Governor Iowa
  • Bill Richardson, Governor New Mexico
She belived that she would face off against John McCain in the General Election.
