I find that extraordinarily hard to believe given how this supposedly mainstream silent majority keep getting their asses handed to them by the supposed minority. If Trump were not actually representative of the republican party then the establishments attempts to beat him would have won. But no, Trump is far more the representative of the republican party than any moderate.

If their claim was true Trump would not be on the verge of being their nominee. He also wouldn't win any states if he is their nominee. I don't support him but I voted for him anyway because he is a Republican doesn't cut it. You choose him, you vote for him you own him :)

Pretty sure the actual government works in the opposite direction of the bold.

More posts than I usually expect in 24 hours.

There was this story by TheMann where POTUS Obama is assassinated.

Basically, the US goes up in flames.

Thanks for the link. I missed that one on two passes.

I think you underestimate the hope and expectations from the black community going into the Obama presidency. Those hopes ended up dashed but if he's killed before he can do anything there will be two major reactions. One, which makes Obama into a martyr, and another which sees this and remembers the Black Panthers and Malcolm X's warnings about the hopelessness of peacefully asking for equality. So he will be remembered as more than a do nothing no matter what, because of the fact that it has a big impact on Americas oldest and most terrifying divisions.

This I'd think wold be one of the more profound effects. The leaders voices in the African American community will be shriller & more aggitated. the sort of bitterness I remember in the 1970s would return as disillusionment spreads. Radical 'Black Racists' will return as well.

Race becomes a big issue. How the republican party n the right wing media reacts is any ones guess. The US now has to pay real attention to domestic, white terrorism

Yes, I can see a hardening and energy among white racists. Their core view is 'We did it!" & they will see efforts to supress their extremists as part of the ongoing race war. There are likely to be more attacks of a racial nature. Others with a violent agenda may be stimulated. Attacks on abortion clinics or doctors might increase. So, might attacks on Federal employees.

As a moderate conservative I can tell you this. There may be jackasses in my party, but the silent majority of decent, moderate Republicans hate them just as much as you non-Republicans do. You just don't hear from them as they get drown out by the shrill whining of the Tea-Party and the Trumpites. :(

Unfortunately, you're eerily and totally accurate. Theodore Roosevelt-style Republicans, of which I'm one, decry the ideologic hijacking of the party of Lincoln, TR, Ike, and Ronald Reagan.

That said, I fear that an assassination like the one mentioned would indeed have caused near-seismic reactions. The already-brittle dialogue that exists on race relations would have become nothing but a series of shrieks, and it would have escalated from there.

I grew up in a conservative & Republican family, but when in my thirties in the Regan era I started taking shit from folks accusing me of not being "conservative" enough. By the election of Bush Sr 'Republican here in central Indiana were pressuring me into joining a variety of organizations or actions I had no liking of. To many were insinuating that if I did not support their racist views I was not a Republican. I could go on but in short the party moved away from my position and to a large degree rejected me.

Not many ways to de escalate that. Biden might have tried to recruit a African American Congressman as VP, but most I'd think would have hesitated to take the offer.
