(I'm new to AHD, I apologize if this shows. Any critique is appreciated)

The overall goal of this timeline is to have America be devastated by a WMD near the end of World War II. I mostly want to explore the impact on American culture, but I also want to tie up any logical loose ends that result.

Obviously the Nazis were closest to building a nuclear weapon.

Heisenberg seems like a good point of departure. At some low point in his life, Heisenberg is exposed to literature that makes him more sympathetic to Hitler. When Heisenberg is put on the Nuclear Project, his work is cleaner, he's far more motivated and he actively persuades the Nazis to fund the nuclear program.

This is not a "Nazis win WWII" timeline. TTL assumes that the Nazi's were not any more efficient than in OTL. Funding that would have supplied troops is now diverted to getting a nuke.

Near the end of the war, the Reich gain intelligence that America is also developing a nuclear program. Fearing an imminent nuclear strike, German bombs are dropped on select American targets.

Aside from general critiques, I could use advice on a few technical things.

1. Optimistically, how large is the German Nuclear Arsenal?

2. If the Germans strike first, how likely is America drop a bomb on Germany?

3. Any idea as to what happens to Japan? My understanding is that America was much more important in the Pacific than it was in Europe.
