Novgorod becomes principle state of Russia after the Mongol Invasions

Novgorod was not burned and attacked by the Mongols is there any way that this position of not being devastated could be turned into novgorodian ascendancy over the rest of the Russian princes?

unfortunately, Novgorod was more focused on $$$ then conquest; And Muscovy had no money but a large (poorly trained army.)

So you can kind of see why thing turned out the way they did. If you can change the Republic of Novgorod into a monarchy (though retaining republican elements would be good.)

One thing history teaches is that it's quite easy for a rich country to tear apart one whom's head of state is elected by money hungry aristocrats. You just buy them off to elect who you want, preferably somebody weak so you can strike.

Muscovy had a massive advantage in both its primogeniture succession system and its status as the tax collector for the Tatars that allowed them to act far more independently than many other Russian states under the watchful eye of the Horde. Not sure how you can combat that sort of advantage as Novogorod.

When did the Mongols make Moscow chief tax collector?

Novgorod was burned by the Mongols? If I remember correctly they bought the Mongols off and their armies never went that far north.
