Part I: Insults

Senator McCain: “… remove all the special deals for the special interests and favored few, and treat all Americans the same under provisions of the law so that they will know that geography does not dictate what kind of healthcare they would receive. I thank you Mr. President.”

President Obama: “Let me just make this point John, because we’re not campaigning anymore. The election is over.”

Senator McCain: *chuckles* “I’m reminded of that everyday.”

President Obama: “Yeah, so we can spend the remainder of the time with our respective talking points going back and forth. We were supposed to be talking about insurance.”

Dad came home that night angry. He kept muttering something to himself over and over. It was something about an election (I think it was the one from 2008) and how the President was rubbing something in his face. Whatever happened that day, it must have really gotten to him. He disappeared into his room and we didn’t see him again until dinner. The rest of us chatted at the dinner table while dad concentrated on his meal. We kept asking him what was wrong, and he kept insisting that everything was fine; that it was just stress from that morning. I asked him again, and he finally snapped at me, saying that nothing was wrong and that everyone should mind their own business. He put his food down, muttered that it was good, and stalked off to his room. I’m not sure to this day, but I think I heard him say, just before he went into his room, “The election’s over huh? We’ll see about that.”

-Meghan McCain, quoted in “One Last Time”, an account of the McCain campaign in the 2012 United States Presidential Election

Part II: Maverick Mac is Back

“For four long, painful years, we have lived under the rule of the most radical President in the history of the United States. Never before have we seen a President so committed to destroying the basic freedoms of the American people, or one that is so committed to keeping us in an economic recession as Barack Obama. Four years ago, I ran against this President, and tonight, four years later, I’m here to announce that I will do it again. I am here to officially announce my candidacy for President of the United States!”

- Senator John McCain’s announcement for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 2012 on July 23rd, 2011.
