Not one inch - The bloody defense of Jersey 1940 ?

On 30 June 1940 the Germans occupied the island of Jersey - could we have a realistic scenario where Churchill says 'Not one inch of our land will be given up unless drenched in German blood' - and see a serious defense of the channel islands ?

Holding them permanently is unlikely, but maybe making the Germans pay a very very steep price is possible ?

...but maybe making the Germans pay a very very steep price is possible ? - That depeds on how many civilian lives you are willing to "pay" for each and every German one, doesn't it ?

The channel islands did not lend themselves to a bloody defence. The Germans spent thousands of man hours and a serious amount of reinforced concrete to make them defensible. If we had tried without heavy weapons the steep price would, unfortunately, have been to the defenders.
