Hi! Thank you for clicking on this, I hope you all can find this interesting.
I've wanted to do a American Political Timeline set in the second half of the 20th century for some time. This timeline is inspired by New Deal Coalition Retained and No Southern Strategy, but ultimately it will be more of a timeline featuring wikiboxes than one centered around them.
This idea originally started off as a way to push the United States in a more leftward direction. While that will still be the case, it's evolved a lot since then. I hope it won't be perceived as a left-wank. Conservatives will win some battles they lost IOTL (as a hint: RFK's Catholicism influenced him a lot more than his brothers).
A lot of this is written already, but I will try to pace out updated for my sake. It will feature mostly on American politics but I have a few ideas for other nations. Without further ado, let's get into the POD, as well as a more noticeable butterfly of said POD. Expect the first official update very soon.
Edward Kennedy had to feel proud of himself for the meeting. It had gone just about as well as it could have. Senator Eugene McCarthy, the anti-war maverick of the Democratic Caucus, had agreed to not run in next year's presidential election and endorse Ted's brother, in exchange for policy concessions against the war and a high level cabinet position in a possible RFK administration. Ted knew Bobby wouldn't be happy, at least not at first. Such concessions would put constraints on the campaign early on, and Bobby even insisted he hadn't made up his mind on a run yet. But Ted knew in his heart Bobby would run... he had to if they wanted to keep the legacy of their late brother alive. With a well run campaign (something Ted himself could help with), they could surely put another Kennedy in the white house.
Robert F. Kennedy has survived an attempted on his life late last night, after being declared victor of the California primary. Shortly after giving a speech to a crowd at the Ambassador Hotel, the senator planned to deliver a second speech to a new audience at a different adress. While waving goodbye to adoring fans, he was shot in the shoulder by an assailant later revealed to be Pakistani immigrant Sirhan Sirhan. It is believed his intent was to murder the presidential candidate. Kennedy is currently in an LA hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
