Northern Secession - Nation's Name?

If somehow the North or a part of it (likely New England) seceded from the USA in the antebellum era, what would its name be?

If it's just New England it is pretty obvious what it is called, but the addition of non-Yankee free states like New York, Pennsylvania, the Great Lakes, etc makes me wonder what we'd call it. Would it still be called X States of America then? Would a nickname for the North ala 'Dixie' or 'Southland' be made (or already exist in OTL?)? Would it be a Confederacy/Confederate, Federation/Federated, etc?

Draw your lines at the Mississippi, Ohio, and Potomac Rivers - maybe they keep the whole of Minnesota or none at all - call it the Allied States of America, the Federated States of (North) America, or maybe they even call themselves a Confederacy since it's before 1861

Coming up with a plausible name and demonym is dependent upon what particular states are involved, what caused/motivation disunion and in what time period it happens?

I was planning on using something similar to this in a TL "The Federated States of America." So yes likely that.
i actually remembered that recently and was trying to find the thread ;)

i agree with your idea of it being the Federated States of America, partly because it doesn't really come up like some others do (Ghost in the Shell, for instance, had a rump USA as well as American Empire and Russo-American Alliance) while some might have the northern states balkanize instead into several different ones (though that usually goes along with Confederate secession rather than *Unionists leaving)

as for naming conventions in the place itself, i imagine that, if one goes with Federated States of America, it would be shortened/contracted to the Federation or the FSA (while the now South-centered United States remains the Union and USA) and their people may be called Federals of Federationalists (or some variation of that). the first idea that comes to mind, though, was Federales (as in Spanish), sorta like Confederados. alternatively, they could simply be called Northern Americans and Southern Americans, respectively
