There are routes you can take to keep California independent. (For an extra twist, there was a recent thread about the idea for a Prussian colonisation scheme in California in the 1840s.)
There were also those who wanted Oregon to become an independent country: the USA and britain not wanting the other to have it could conceivably yield that result.
I'd argue that Cascadia is not along the same lines as 'Jesusland': if you get ecotopianism to gain traction, ecotopian secessionism may well be a thing, and if very successful, could indeed lead to an independent Cascadia.
Then there's Alaska: it's occassionally been suggested that if Russia kept it, it might become a refuge for the Whites after the Russian Civil War (a moderate butterfly net might be in order for that).
Of course there's Deseret.
Not to mention Tecumseh's Indian Confederation / that Indian Buffer State idea Britain toyed with.
There was also a thread way, way back, suggesting that if Britain had won the ARW, the patriots could have gone into western exile and set up Free States beyond the Appalachians (much like the Boers did in South Africa).
If Canadian confederaton is prevented, do the independent states that cotinue to exist in Canada's place count as extra American nations? If not (because British Empire/Commonwealth), what if some choose to leave the Empire and go republican? Do those count? There are possibilities there.
