Non American multinational fast-food and similar chains

Might I suggest the quintessentially London fast food emporium of the Pie and Mash shop complete with jellied eels and liquor.

Isn't Wimpy a British burger chain?

Doesn't this sound edible.

Bacon in a Bun £X.XX
2 tasty slices of bacon served in a sesame seed bun with Wimpy ketchup.

Burger King was British owned at one point but it's American in origin.

Wimpy's main problem with expanding was that their equivalent to the Big Mac and Whopper is called the "Bender"...

I don't think these count, anyway, because even if they start in other countries they're still just copying existing American fast-food fashions. I'm talking about different national origins.

Jollibee is a fast-food chain set up by a Filipino Chinese and present in several south-east Asian countries. In France, the Tang Brothers, two Laotian Chinese immigrants and founders of an international supermarket chain, have recently been toying with fast food franchises, but AFAIK it's still limited to a couple of outlets in Paris. I've based the development of various Asian fast-food chains in my "Superpower Empire" TL on such concepts.

Perhaps the Franco-Belgian Quick chain could be more succesful? Then again, I've got the impression that it's mostly a European McDonalds copy, so we should have a succesful McDonalds first.

I always thought there should be a German fast food chain selling that Europeanised Döner Kebab (after all, it was invesnted in Berlin ;) )... I mean, Döner imbisses would have to qualify as fast food anyways, so that seems like a real market niche to me. If there is a chain for it, then due to the economics of scale the prices should be somewhat lower, thus attracting costumers etc.

that´s actually a good idea, apart from the economics of scale, main worry is hygienic standards.

(I myself haven´t eaten a Döner since December since it... fought back)

Reminds me of " A year in the Merde", about an Englishman who tries to set up a english tea chain in France.
People working with french firms I know have told me it´s quite accurate.

Well, if there isnt an economics of scale effect then there is no niche for it, as the independant imbisses will cover it quite well enough. And besides, Id guess that in a standardified chain hygiene conditions would actually be better.

And well, here in Marburg theres a dozen or so imbisses, so if one should... prove to be not so healthy there are still plenty to choose from :D

I could see a chain of indian-themed restaurant started by a guy who studied in the USA....

We have also a chain of lebanese-themed one, a few restaurants in Montreal, but that could have taken off in a world in a lebanese diaspora or something. Halal fast food? :D

Well, there is NANDO's as such a popular South African-based fastfood chain that's now spread round the world, incl the UK & Australia. Well, we Aussies also have a few cool fastfood chains like Red Rooster- how could they be more ubiquitous then ?

I thought Nandos was Mozambiquan. (Or maybe Portuguese)

Hey what about a Scottish-owned fast food chain specialising in haggis, neeps & tatties ? Or a Welsh 1 which prepares such specialties as Welsh rarebit & lavas bread ?

Damn, it'd be also cool to have a good Aussie-owned bushtucker chain- WALKABOUT in the UK is probaly the closest, where you can get roo & croc fillet burgers.
