“7th June 1942: Hitler invades Lisbon and Salazar runs away to the Azores.

Spring 1942. The Portuguese Consul in Athens is exiled in the island of Malta, after a hectic escape from Greece, following the German invasion in 1941. He has in his possession a secret file which includes, among other things, the secrets and ascendancy of the Hitler family. This file had belonged to the Austrian Chancellor Engelbert Dollfüss, murdered in 1934. Chased by the Nazis, the Portuguese Consul escapes an assassination attempt with the help of English friends and does his best to deliver the file to Salazar.

At the height of the Nazi offensive, and realizing that the key for the victory in Africa and against England passes trough Malta, Hitler finally decides to conquer the small island before launching the summer offensive that would take the Germans to the Volga River and the city of Stalingrad. Also he needed to recover the file and its secrets…

Together with this goal, Hitler develops another one: to obtain the relics that exist in the Iberian Peninsula, like the Holy Grail, which he believes, was sent to Portugal by the Templar Knights. Lisbon is bombed, Portugal invaded and Salazar escapes at the last moment to the Azores aboard an English vessel…

Portugal becomes a true war zone, from the Algarve to Trás-os-Montes. Hitler orders the setup of a puppet government. Death camps are created in Entroncamento and Torres Vedras – Portuguese of Jewish descend, enemies of the new regime and refugees dye by the thousands. The resistance starts to organize itself in the South and the Northern interior lands…”

This is the summary of a new alternate history novel by Portuguese Author Luís Corredoura. I’ve searched but it seems it as just been published in Portugal and no translated version is, yet, available.

Nevertheless, I’ve just purchased the book and started reading it. The story seems really interesting and so far (first couple of chapters) it has hooked me…

Anybody (For the moment I think only the Portuguese speaking members of the forum would have been able to take notice of this new work) has any comments?
