What if Watergate never became the scandal it did IRL and ensured that Nixon would have finished his two terms as President in 1977. Plus assume that Agnew's dodgy (to say the least) financial dealings never were pursued or were brushed under the carpet; therefore Agnew remains Vice President instead of resigning. How would this affect the runnings for President?

How would the party nominations have gone? Would the Democrats have nominated a 'Washington Insider' such as Scoop Jackson or gone to Muskie, Wallace or any of the other contenders. For the GOP I assume Agnew would run* and would be threatened by Reagan and others; could he have won the nomination? If so how would the election then go in November '76?

(*I recall reading in Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 that many experts and pundits assessed that Agnew had a '>75% chance of getting the nomination.')
