No Vietnam war - what happens in Biafra?

U.S. president Richard Nixon was sympathetic to Biafra. Before he won the 1968 election, he accused Nigeria of committing a genocide against Biafrans and called for the United States to intervene in the war to support Biafra. However, he was ultimately unsuccessful in his efforts to aid Biafra due to the demands of the Vietnam War.

Would the US intervene in Biafra? Would intervention in the region be more successful than in Vietnam (my guess would be yes, since Biafra has a much stronger ethnic and social basis for existence than south Vietnam, whose motive to remain separate from the north was mostly ideological). Would an American intervention impact the UK's backing of the federal government? And does Biafra stand a fighting chance with the US on its side?

Maybe humanitarian assistance but ( according to thinking of that time ) why would marines be sent to die if the enemy wasn’t communist?

Both American and British business interests are on the side of the Federal government and directly supporting a Separatist state would hurt American image in the Third World. There is no reason for the US get involved in any capacity without a pre-war pod seeing the UK backing Biafra and Nigeria being a threat to American interests.
