No Valdemar Atterdag = no more Denmark?

I'm trying to come up with some ideas for a Hanseatic/Baltic German wank TL. Valdemar Atterdag was an important king in Danish history who took control at a time when Denmark was increasingly coming under the control of German nobles. But what if Valdemar was never born? Would Denmark cease to exist in the 14th century?

If not Valdemar another King would have risen to the challenge. He was simply the guy in place at that point. It's not impossible that Denmark could disappear as a kingdom in the kingless time, but when Valdemar arrived on the scene there was simply a universal interest in the Danish estates to return to reunify the country, and the neighboring countries also had a interest in the anarchy ending.

But we could see Denmark dissolve in several different states before, and if the Holsteinian counts had succeed in establish stable Jutish and Zealand states with a few of the island ending up as independent duchies and Scania as a independent kingdom in union with Sweden. We would likely not have seen a reunification of Denmark.
