instead of Syria the French split it up and these countries become independent in 1946

Well Lebanon was already independent in 1946, as in OTL, so that can't be used.

That leaves Damascus, Aleppo, the Druze, and the 'Alawite states. The Damascus state will call itself Syria (so a bit of cheating), the Aleppo state will use the Arabic name of the city ('Halab), the 'Alawite state will call itself Latakia, and the Druze state will call itself - well, Souadia.

To get this, you'll need a POD where the French are determined not to have any of these states from uniting - which is going to be hard. Either way, these states are probably going to be weak. As a result, there will be a way of trying to get all these states united. A perfect opportunity would be Nasser's United Arab Republic, which would probably include all of these - maybe even Iraq and Kuwait, if you are lucky. Thus, thanks to the UAR, there will be a united Syria.

The point being - try as you might, but I still see a united Syria coming from this.
