Suppose Spain doesn't attempt to stir trouble with Britain by decreeing that any slaves who reach Florida are free. As a result, we don't have the 1739 Stono Rebellion and no Negro Act of 1740. Without this precedent and laws against slave literacy, how is the history of the South affected, especially later on down the line when slavery becomes a truly contentious issue?
