What would have happened if the war ended a little earlier and the Spanish Flu not spread around the world? Were there major historical figures who died of the flu IOTL?

More to the point - and really unanswerable - are the future major figures who died? Politicians, scientists, artists, warriors, writers... We don't know we're missing if we never had it in the first place.

Quite a few actually, including a Brazilian president, South African prime minister Louis Botha, sociologist Max Weber, and the eldest son of Ibn Saud (and a few of his younger brothers). That would have huge butterflies on 20th century Saudi Arabia which could spill over into the rest of the Middle East.
 
I think the war would have to end before the U.S. deployed troops to France at the latest. I read a book a couple years ago that traced the spread. It may have even spread to both sides of the front before then. So even if the war ended sooner the return of troops to their home countries would have allowed the spread. Maybe the lack of censorship would have allowed the spread of information to have caused quarentines and other measures to be adopted but I don't think it would have really stopped it.
