No Sino-Soviet Split

What if the USSR's relations with the PRC had never deteriorated, ending with the Split? Say a Chinese chairman more friendly to the Soviet brand of communism comes to power. How much better would the USSR fare in the Cold War, and could the PRC have possibly even joined the Soviet Union?

Depends entirely on the details. I wouldn't call eliminating the split ASB, but it requires a very different set of circumstances than OTL.

There is no way China would join the USSR. Despite what Soviet propaganda attempted to show, the republics of the USSR were not equal, since it was Russian dominated. If China joins, nearly 80% of the population is in one SSR, and it's not Russia. That, and China also adds more UN votes.

Superman is right. Russians were not so stupid as to let China join USSR as one SSR making Russians a minority group in their own country. They very well knew that such a USSR would be dominated by the Chinese even if Tibet, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and Manchuria were admitted as separate SSRs.

You'll need to have a saner Soviet leadership that is willing to share power with the PRC, and you will also need a more rational Chinese regime that is willing to put national pride aside.
