No secret protocol added to the two Polish defence pacts

I'll be damned if I ever read that book!

Good for you! :)

It's mind numbing, tedious, depressing, and a waste of good trees. Aside from excerpts, I'd avoiding reading it until a college course gave me something of a reason to do so. :( Even then it was a definite slog.

The worst part of reading the damn thing is that he lays it all out it black and white for everyone to read. It's [all in there and no one paid any attention whatsoever.

As for a war between the WAllies and Soviets, it's possible and it could have happened quite by accident. However, as junaml82 wisely pointed out, it's not in the best interests of Britain, France, and the USSR to actually go to war with each other so all three governments will make excuses not to do so.

It's also going to be very hard for either side to get at each other and there won't be a lot of assets for the job.

Merchant ships wouldn't be adapted for an offensive operation like Sealion. The speed of the allied landing craft was instrumental in the success of Operation Overlord. The Soviet Navy didn't have such a technology in 1940. I think (though I should verify that) the Soviet tried some small-scale landings on the shores of Lake Ladoga during the Winter War, and it was a massacre (for them).
There was actually like a fuckton of amphibious operations made by Soviets in WW II, so there :p

(of course, minor compared to Overlord, but compared to Overlord, everything is minor. As in the legend, the answer of German observer when questioned how many allied ships does he see: "all of them" :D)
