No scottish monarch on the english throne

i was reading through another forum earlier today and people were discussing the terminology of elizabeth II in canada, and then it sorta devoled into one person saying had elizabeth the first had children then our current monarch would be on the scottish throne solely not the english

course i realised it was a load of twaddle, but it got my thinking on if lizzy had had a child, then would there ever have being a union between england and scotland, or would the events that lead up to our current monarchy ( james I, the civil war, the catholicism of james II and glorious revolution, the hanovarian dynasty, etc) still have taken place, but in some other shape or form and if not, woudl cotland and england/whales/ireland, be completly seperate to the modern day under alternate monarchies?

just wanted peoples thoughts on whether some form of union wouldve taken place, or if the scottish and english still be glaring at each other over "the wall"

Scotland could stay independant but given its cultural similarities and economic depednance upon its richer southern neighbour, and quite mutaually antagonistic foriegn policy, scotland will either be absorbed by future dynastic union or war.

Why? Portugal had the same problems with Spain and managed to stay independent, and even broke a personal union after 60 years under the same monarch. Scotland could very well have remained independent to this day.

Indeed it could, however Scotalnd is much poorer than England and would have difficulty. I agree with you, it could break out of a personal union and remain independant however it would take exceptional events and conditions for them to win the independance war.
