No Saddam Hussein

We know his mother wanted to kill him. That's a fact. He'd been stillborn,
Iraq would have been spared the Stalin on Steroids that he became.

1. Some other cruel Sunni Baathist tyrant comes to power.

2. A Shiite leader will emerge from a bloody civil war to rule Iraq as a theology.

3. Iran conquers southern Iraq along with all the oil.

She did. She also banged it into walls. She didn't want Saddam. Or as I used to call him, So Damn Insane. :D

It's my own belief, but I don't think a woman banging her pregnant belly into walls and slamming doors on her stomach is much of a place for a :D. True, Hussein was a bad man by anyone's accounts, but going to those lengths is just sad if you don't want a child.

Anyway. Moving on to the thread at hand...

I agree with the other poster who said that if there was no Hussein, Iraq would have had basically the same, or worse, history as it has IOTL. I can't see a dictator not rising to power in the country, or Iran getting handsy with southern Iraq and its oil.

Iraq would end up being run by a different (probably Sunni) muderous thug. I think that it is not likely that said thug would be daft enough to attack Iran. Thjere would, therefore, be no attack on Kuwaite because the financial position would be so much better.

International butterfly 1) - Iran not so desperate probably no Iran Contra deal.

International butterfly 2) No Gulf war 1. Daddy Bush looks weaker in 1992 and a better field of Democrats seek the nomination

International butterfly 3) quite likely no Al Auaeda, their huge grievance was that there were US forces on the 'Holy' soil of Saudi Arabia.

you could end up with someone even smarter and more ruthless who fully conquers Iran. and then just makes billions selling oil to the rest of the world as he builds up his nation into a true world power.
