Interview with Timothy Crouse; Bernard Shaw, Cable News Network, 1990

SHAW: Mr Crouse, what exactly happened in 1972, when you were covering the primary campaigns, those of the Republican candidates?

CROUSE: In New Hampshire--

SHAW: New Hampshire.

CROUSE: Well, right. I was interested in getting an interview with a member of the President's, Nixon's, Reelection Committee. Someone who was leading their campaign on the local level. I was interested in how much they considered the campaign of Congressman McCloskey. I was told by a scheduler that no such meeting was available, this scheduler was Mr Roger Stone.

SHAW: The first time you met Mr Stone?

CROUSE: The first time. And so, I started to cover McCloskey. He was targeting the anti-war vote, which was concentrated, like in the rest of the country, in the colleges, the universities.

SHAW: You went to their headquarters?

CROUSE: That's right. It was pure coincidence, really. As I was about to go in, I saw Stone leaving. I didn't try to talk to him, so I asked the receptionist, who explained that he was a donor. Matter of fact, she was confused as to why the Young Socialist Alliance campaign was donating to them all of a sudden. That's when I became somewhat more interested in Roger Stone.
