No Reichstag Fire

According to mainstream historians, Reichstag fire was, well if not arranged by Nazis themselves, then at least encouraged. If it didn't happen, they would certainly concoct other incident very soon and it would happen the same. Hitler needed an excuse for enablement act to push through Reichstag. He would get it, fire or not.

This. (necessary filler)

Actually from what I have read on the matter, van der Lubbe appears to have been responsible himself and to have acted on his own initiative.
I agree that they may have found some other event to get their enabling act though.

I agree with what's said above that another incident that could be blamed on the Left would have been concocted, the assassination of Hindenburg perhaps?

One of the more bizarre theories I've seen was that Hitler's oratory teacher (a former stage hypnotist) helped "persuade" Van der Lubbe to do the deed. The Nazis would probably find another way anyway.

They would have to find one fast though - apparently Hitler's government wasn't all that popular by the end of 1933 (according to Richard Evans), if the administration hadn't achieved dictatorial powers it may well have been overthrown if the conservatives withdrew their support.
