No post 1966 taboo on Aircraft Carriers.

As we all know in 1966 the British Government canceled the CVA01 carriers. Following this any suggestion of building any new carriers at all was politically taboo, hence the Invincibles were officially Through Deck Anti Submarine Cruisers. Now my suggestion is that when the Conservatives come to power in 1970 they lift this ban and allow the RN to openly plan for and design new light carriers based around the Harrier VSTOL fighter bomber. There's no way the RN would get the large carriers they want, Britain couldn't afford the manpower. So what sort of ship would be likely to emerge and what Air Group would be chosen for them?

Well if they understand that steel is cheap then we could be looking at a 3 x 30 Kton ships capable of carrying double an invincibles Airgroup while the crew size would not be much larger than OTL Invincible - about 700 plus whatever the airgroup component was

COGAG Propulsion similar to Invincible with a Bow mounted Sea Dart system (it was all the rage back then)

Ski ramp - still probably 2 lifts may slightly larger (Chinook capable?) Hanger not so oddly shaped and capable of operating as an LHP and embarking an RM Commando (700 Bootnecks) - (again it was all the rage)

Makes sense, Albion and Bulwark are still slated for disposal. I like the idea of 30Kton ships. Elevators starboard side fore and aft of the island seams a good spot to put them.

Aircraft. 2 Harrier squadrons, 8 Seaking ASW, 2 Wessex SAR, 4 Canadair CL-84 Dynavert AEW (Radar scanner in inflated radome as in the otl Seaking AEW), 1 CL-84 Dynavert COD. If Operating as Commando Carrier 1 Harrier Squadron and 4 Seakings replaced by Westland Commando Transport Helicopters.

4 Landing Craft in Davits
