Britain already tried invading Argentina, twice, and got booted out, twice. Maybe if they had planned it correctly either time, they'd have achieved a foothold from which to cause further grief to Spain. Their big mistake was to try taking it for themselves instead of setting up a puppet regime. (well, the big mistake was invasion one, which was a rogue operation done with no forethought, and hence doomed to disaster and tipping off the portenos that they need to prepare themselves, which they did) If they had gone in with the intention of setting up a local monarchy, they'd have done well.
The venezuala plan was part of the Miranda Plan, which aimed to set up a new country. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened.
