No Nuclear Weapons - Where does the US' money go?

I can't see a reason WHY nuclear weapons would not be invented.

The discovery of fission has already happen in 1939, as have the idea of the atom splinting earlier. The first controlled nuclear fission reaction took place in the University of Chicago, 1942, and the Target Committee had four cities line up.

The Trinity Test would happen more, or less on time.

So....nukes are long in the cards by 1945, waiting to be use.

Peaceful (yeh right) exploration of space on that scale would soon turn into lets drop large rocks, or heat shielded metal blocks, onto the other sides cities at near orbital velocity. The Moon gets mined for ammunition.

Should this not also be adjusted for growth in the US economy as that would make the earlier peaks even higher competitively, at the moment this makes it look like WWII was only a third more than GWOT and makes Korea and Vietnam look cheap....

It does not show which of several methods were used to adjust for inflation. Different methods show differing results.

I wonder if a thing like "Rods from God" could replace nuclear weapons as a deterrent. Didn't CalBear masterpiece AANW A4s used that ? I remember Stettin being trashed into a smoking hole in the ground.

There isn't much gold on the Moon, nor any useful metal. Now if those unuseful lunar rocks were turned into kinetic weapons...
