Let's say that for whatever reason Hitler chooses not to cripple the SA and have Roehm killed. What comes of their power growing unchecked?
 
I believe not only the Army, but also the industrialists and conservative/old order type people whom Hitler needed were quite pleased with the results.
 
That and you also don't get rid of Engelbert Dolfuss in Austria, so you might have a bloodier Anschluss if it comes to that.

If AH didn't purge Roehm and the SA leadership, he would have been cut off by the military and the industrialists. It probably would had led either a civil war when the SA attempts to assert more authority over the government or AH would have been deposed by the military/industrialists. Bad for the Nazis

If there was unrest in Germany, it could open the door for more assertive Communist policies in eastern Europe/France.
