No Napoleon: Effects on French Revolutionary Wars?

Let's just say Nappy never exists. Ignoring all the later effects of this, would the outcome of the F.R.W been pretty much OTL, or less successful?

France would still expand - they attacked as far as Bavaria before Napoleon and aimed at Vienna - but not to the same extent. I’m not sure who would win, actually - that really depends on the exact events occurring in non-Napoleonic France, which is very much in the air.

I'm not sure a ton changes until around the time of his OTL coup, really. So long as someone could win the 1796 Italian campaign in his place, the Second Coalition was beaten pretty much entirely without his help, so you just need to figure out who would replace the Directory instead. And the Directory would almost certainly get replaced, with how unpopular they were.

Actually the war was going badly for France until Napoléon returned from Egypt.

He only took charge for the Marengo campaign, which was also among his sloppiest work. Most of the victories were won by other generals. Including Marengo, many would say.
