No Muddy Mine in 39

1939 and the german magnetic mine was severely disrupting British shipping . No intact examples had been recovered until November 1939 when 2 were recovered from mud flats . A luftwaffe pilot had dropped them there when panicked by a flak battery taking potshots in his direction .

Now what would have happened if the British hadn't had that stroke of luck .

A magnetic mine would have been found intact later on. Up until that time, the British (and everyone else) would have taken more losses to mines.

my understanding they were planning on amassing more prior to use? IDK if that was to have maximum impact before any counters were discovered?

always speculate if they had greater numbers of them combined with butterfly bombs (first used 1940 IIRC), was the only real chance against UK?
