No Mongols

If something akin to the Renaissance happens, ITTL it's probably as likely to originate in the Muslim lands as in the West. No Mongols means the great library of Baghdad is not destroyed; even if Mesopotamia was in relative decline in the 13th century, if those resources still exist it's more likely someone will make use of them eventually.

Not sure if it can't be both. A reflowering of Islam's Golden Age and a European Renaissance...

Without the Mongols, true, Mesopotamia and the Muslim world in general will be the better for it.

However, there still are the Crusades, so intellectual exchanges will still happen, likely leading to a Renaissance, but one different from OTL. This would all mean that we end up with a world less dominated by Christian European culture.

I don't suppose Persia could be the strongest or the first to enter a Renaissance then maybe invading India and going on colonial adventures down east Africa. I wonder how the Ottomans would also be effected.
