Suppose the timing of the Mongol invasion of Europe is disrupted for whatever reason, meaning that there is no time for a campaign against Hungary before the Great Khan Ögedei dies, and infighting breaks out. Presume that the Mongols are still able to devastate the Romanian principalities, with perhaps smaller raids into Transylvania or Hungary proper.

Is Hungary in a strong enough position to take advantage of the weakness of Wallachia and Moldavia, or otherwise expand in the Balkans? Medieval Hungary seemed to have been relatively wealthy, and without the Mongol invasion, would not have suffered such a considerable population decline. Would the power of the crown erode away as much as it did IOTL?
