Why would Diaz do this? He was quite pro-British--he had recognized British sovereignty over Belize https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belize–Mexico_border and encouraged British investment in Mexico (partly as a counterweight to excessive dependence on the US). Moroever, his major justification for his authoritarian rule was that he had brought peace to Mexico. Why is he suddenly emabarking on a risky war of aggression that will enrage the US, which does not want any change in Latin American borders, and which though neutral in the Great War has been suspicious for a generation of Germany's Caribbean ambitions? The only nation that would be pleased would be Germany, but Germany is not in much of a position to help Mexico, after all...
well if you can't beat them might as well join them. what would a allied mexico do in a scenario where it joins ww1 without the revolution.
Seize German flagged ships in Mexican ports and sit on the side lines a-la Brazil.well if you can't beat them might as well join them. what would a allied mexico do in a scenario where it joins ww1 without the revolution.
Again, why? Mexico has enough internal problems (The financial crisis, if nothing else) to deal with, and zero interests involving Continental Europe or the CP in general. Just keep selling oil to the Brits
but, didn't Brazil send troops to Europe during the battle of St. Quentin canal?Seize German flagged ships in Mexican ports and sit on the side lines a-la Brazil.
Yes, a total of 20 officers were sent to gain first hand experience on the western front. There was no Brazilian expeditionary force (although plans for one were drafted and ultimately discarded).but, didn't Brazil send troops to Europe during the battle of St. Quentin canal?
For financial compensation from both britain and France and more help from the U.S in industrializing the country just like they did in ww2 when mexico joined the allies, and if i recall correctly wasn't mexico francophile?
Mexico joined WW2 for very different reasons than just "financial compensations" and while Porfirio Díaz was quite francophile that doesn't mean he is joining a big war at another continent just for the sake of defending his favourite country.
And saying "No Mexican revolution" is quite easy but avoiding it is the complex part, the situation in the country was far from stable, there was rising discontent through several parts of the country and also the government. There wasn't a clear line of succession and clearly Díaz isn't going to live forever.
The situation isn't favourable for Mexico to join into the WW1.
I don't call this ASB but unless you decide to explain how will the nation avoid the revolution...it will fall into that category. (And I'm really against saying "ASB" to every unlikely idea, but this one really is hard to think about)
