No Marvel

Just assume that Stan Lee dies in a car crash in 1960 or retires early or something. Sure, Kirby and Dirko and the rest are still there, but one of the main minds behind Marvel Comics is out of the picture. As a result, there's no Fantastic Four, Hulk, Spider-Man... how does this affect comics and the world at large?

Marvel comics would still produce super-hero based comics. Market pressures at the time demand it. They would probably revive their late 30's and 40's era Timely comics (the original name for Marvel comics) properties: The Human Torch, Namor, Captain America and Bucky, The Golden Age versions of The Vision, Flaming Skull, Venus, Marvel Boy etc... instead of inventing new characters and probably something along the same sort of line as DC in terms of tone. Iwould probably take a little longer for comics to mature, happening in the 80's instead of the early 70's. The Comics Code Authority probably lasts longer as a real authority. The really good news is that we don't have to deal with the emo X-men or an over used character like Wolverine. ;) :p There is a chance that other minor companies, like Charlton Comics, do better.
