No Lou Pearlman

Lou Pearlman was the man behind the Backstreet Boys and nsync, and was arguably largely responsible for the late 1990's boy-band craze. He's in prison now for running a massive ponzi scheme. I know this may seem to be a relatively minor cultural divergence but what if he had been absent from the pop cultural scene during the 1990's. For whatever reason, he is not able to create any of the boy bands he did in reality. No Backstreet Boys etc. How is American popular culture affected?

As a friend of Lou's, I can say he WAS responsible for the boy band craze. Nobody else was doing it or doing it right.

I wouldn't fit the boy band term into one single description. If Lou wasn't around to form these bands, there still would be teen idols that would of come out. Lou created everything he did based on teen idolship. He didn't do it just to create hit songs.
So even if there wasn't a BSB or Nsync, teen idols still would of been around just like they've been since the "invention" of teen idols.

You can ask the same question of Elvis. How would of pop culture been if Elvis never existed? What path would music have gone down?
