I'm surprised that there isn't a lot of discussion on this topic but what if Napoleon Bonaparte never went to Egypt?
Obviously the Rosetta Stone wouldn't be discovered (or discovered later) and Mehmed Ali wouldn't have ascended to the position of Wali (an Ottoman Governor) without the invasion. But the expedition was also a wakeup call for the Ottomans that they needed to reform. So without that would we see a weaker Ottoman Empire?
