no Elizabeth, but Ann Boleyne give birth to Henry IX

Let's be honest. Henry VIII didn't consider Jane his "one true wife" because he wanted to get into her pants. or the fact that late in his life he considered Jane and Katherine the most physically appealing. It wasn't Jane's personality. It was because she gave birth to a son. And ironically, if a pair is having trouble with getting a son, it's either a coincidence or the father's fault.

I actually just re-read that TL; it really is excellent. But since it only goes through 1567, I can’t help but wonder what comes next; specifically, how the rest of the 16th Century and the 17th Century plays out, at least in the broad sense.

My guess, to get us started:
Phillip ii shortly decides his father had the right idea after all, says ”Fuck it”, and hands the empire over to his son Charles. “That little upstart wants the job so bad, let him deal this shit!” Then, to add insult to injury, things actually do turn around for the Spanish Hapsburgs in the short term - the Morsicos calm down, a ceasefire is reached in Italy (due to Papal forces not quite knowing how else to respond how to this development), and the rebels are crushed in Peru and Mexico pretty much as soon as the loyalists get their shit together. True, things don’t go so easily for King Charles further down the line, but for the time being, more salt in Phillip’s wounds.
