Similar to a thread I posted with the GOP winning in '76 (mostly involving moderate alternatives to Ford and Reagan), the purpose here is mainly to explore better Democratic alternatives to Carter. The POD is Rockefeller and Reagan succeed in denying Nixon the GOP nomination in 1968. Rocky goes onto have an accomplished Presidency sans Watergate, butterflying Carter whose candidacy was only successful because of his outsider image. VP Reagan is the GOP frontrunner going into 1976, but because of the bad economy and the Gipper's arch conservatism he is almost certain to lose to any Democrat. If not Reagan, the Republican nominee could be the powerful, charismatic Senator Chuck Percy who is close to President Rockefeller both politically and personally. Before Carter, the OTL Democratic frontrunners were Ted Kennedy (before he dropped out), Mo Udall, Jerry Brown, and Scoop Jackson. Among these six men (or others if you prefer), who would have been the best to lead America out of 1970's stagflation and into the prosperity of the 1980's?
